Not to be overly negative, but the crowds will never recognize newer stuff if they never play newer stuff!

From a musician's standpoint, I think they are doing it smart. They played an awesome 90 minute set that flowed really well and introduced two of the Sugi Tap songs that most people didn't know. You can't play TOO many songs nobody's heard before---especially not on a first tour back, you need to get people to refamiliarize themselves to your band and what made them fall in love with your music in the first place. As time goes on, they will sprinkle in new songs that they are writing and blend them with the old favorites. I, like Ross, would have liked to have heard some songs off of IAIYH though...I really like that record.

I partially agree with you. I think there needs to be more of a balance, though. Two songs most people haven't heard of versus the 9 singles (Inside Out, Leech, Open Road Song, Tongue Tied, Promise, On the Roof Again, Here's to the Night, Think Twice, and At Least We're Dreaming) from their records, and the typical "concert staples" (How Much Longer, Rescue, Amphetamines.) Isn't a very balanced set. It's great that they're trying to re-familiarize themselves to their audience, but there are consequences to that. The longer the band decides to play more universally popular songs instead of newer or stronger material, the easier it becomes to pigeon-hole them as relics from 90's radio. Right now, they're playing for a very specific audience; people who remember them from "way back when." Only problem is, that's not the kind of audience that sticks around for very long. I hope they know what they're doing, and I'm just being paranoid, but I just have a bad feeling about the future of Eve 6. Just my two cents, though.

I agree with Alex to an extent. Right now the shows are selling out and drawing well because of the nostalgia of it all. When Eve 6 was in Atlantic City on their final tour, they had 30 people at the venue. The people showing up at these shows are the people who are longing for their high school days and Here's To The Night. Right, exactly what I'm saying. They need a new record out as soon as possible. I'm not speaking just as a fan wanting new music, either. Right now, if they're playing shows to "reconnect" with the fanbase, they need to mix things up. The majority of the fans they're reconnecting with, playing the shows they're playing, are, I hate to say it, fairweather fans. They're not doing enough to draw new fans in, two or three new songs isn't enough. The fanbase they're building is extremely temporary, and contingent on them playing their well known songs. I'll give an example. At the 3/25/08 show, the setlist reads:

1- Rescue.
2- Promise.
3- Open Road Song.
4- Think Twice.
5- Little Tiny Everything.
6- Leech.
7- Anytime.
8- Here's to the Night.
9- Friend of Mine.
10- On the Roof Again.
11- Pick Up the Pieces.
12- Inside Out.
13- Amphetamines.
14- At Least We're Dreaming.
15- Tongue Tied.
16- Superhero Girl.

Everyone has good points. I think the main theme in all of these opinions is that everyone wants more varied sets. I hope your not giving up on them Alex lol, but I get what your saying. After Talking with Tony in West Palm I get the feeling that they are still just seeing what happens with everything. There are only demos, no record contract, nothing set in stone, etc. Personally I think its awesome because it gives them a lot more freedom right now. Now first off I notice at every concert there is tons of downtime between when the stage is ready for a band to play and when they actually take the stage. For example in West Palm Beach they were waiting by the side of the stage for about 10 minutes before they went on let delay between bands that if they were there they could have played longer. I just think they could easily just go out there with acoustic guitars and play 2 songs. Any chance they can to let the fans here more music. This set still has the hits...8 of them Think Twice, Leech, Promise, Open Road Song, Here's to the Night, Inside Out, Rescue, At Least We're Dreaming...6 new songs Pick Up the Pieces, Can of Worms, Good Associate, Little Tiny Everything, All These Things, BOLD, and a variety of songs from 3 releases. I think the song choices are all realistic as well. While I'd love to put Arch Drive Goodbye, Girl Eyes, or Hokis, there is a very slim chance of these getting played. Thoughts??

Nah, I'd never give up on Eve 6. What I mainly want, from all of this, is for Eve 6 to succeed, I just think they're digging themselves in, a bit, here. It'd be awesome if they did an acoustic portion during their live show. That's something I've always wanted to see from Eve 6. Personally, I have to disagree about All These Things, I really don't like it as an Eve 6 song. It doesn't fit in at all. It's catchy, but not up to par with their other material. As far as my own personal thoughts on a live show, I'd go with:

1- Intro-Anytime
2- Promise
3- Peace of Mind
4- Open Road Song.
5- Inside Out.
6- 3rd and Flower***
7- Rescue.

- Acoustic Set-
8- Here's to the Night
9- Jesus Nitelite
10- Not Gonna Be Alone Tonight
11- Pick Up the Pieces
12- At Least We're Dreaming

-Electric-
13- Without You Here
14- Victoria***
15- Showerhead

***- I put 3&F and Victoria here just 'cos they're personal favorites and they fit the context well. Ideally, there'd just be two new songs in those slots. What they are doesn't matter, the key is that they're NEW songs.
That'd be four from S/T, three from Horrorscope, four from IAIYH, and 6 not any album, 5 "new" songs. Plus, the sets shouldn't be concrete, maybe throw in Leech, Amphetamines, Girlfriend, or Think Twice.
